Portraits of Success 2007

Charlotte Klinock

Mountain View School District

Ms. "K" is revered by her students as being fair and disciplined. I was very impressed to find the students, one day, being taught cake decorating as a part of a “reward” activity. Ms. “K” is an accomplished cake maker/decorator and brought that skill to the classroom for her students to explore. It was well received by the students and they were all very enthusiastic about the project.

Ms. “K” is also accomplished in knitting/crotchet. And, yes, as part of an ongoing form of art, our students learn to knit and crotchet. What is even more inspiring is that the students love the activity. It seems soothing to them, which is very important given some of their environments. Students receive further satisfaction as they knit “beanies for babies” that are dropped off at the local homeless shelter.
