Teri has been a champion for our students in alternative education. She has been a school board member for the past seven years. During this time, our school board has been faced with several very tough financial decisions. Each and every time that those financial cuts have endangered our community day schools or our continuation schools, Teri has fought for the students in these programs. As School Board president for two of those years, Teri has coached the other Board members on the importance of giving our students in alternative education every resource possible. Teri understands how tough most of these kids have had it while growing up.
In addition to serving on the School Board, Teri has been a volunteer elementary instructional aide in our district for the past 12 years. She coaches youth soccer, little league baseball and even helped coach youth flag football this past fall. It is not uncommon for Teri to visit our community day school sites on a weekly basis. Each time she does this, she offers encouragement to students and teachers alike. She truly understands the importance of helping students with developing the assets they need for success. She sets high expectations for our students and lets them know that she is a true caring adult. She gives to our community with total unselfishness. Teri does all of this in spite of the fact that she and her husband, Mike, are raising four children and running a cattle ranch with 4,000 head of cattle. The ranch itself is an hour’s drive from our nearest school.
Teri Vigil is an adult role model that is passionate about her responsibility in shaping kids’ lives. She exemplifies so many of the external assets that kids need in her life that they are too numerous to list. We are very lucky and proud to have her on our team!
